Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems play a vital role in safeguarding your employees by effectively controlling airborne contaminants in the workplace. However, simply installing an LEV system is not enough. To ensure it remains effective and compliant with the latest safety regulations, your LEV equipment must undergo regular testing, certification and servicing by qualified engineers.
LEV Testing
All Etek Europe LEV Testing engineers are BOHS P601 certified, ensuring that all LEV testing is conducted in full compliance with the COSHH 2002 regulations and HSG 258 guidelines.
Our comprehensive testing process involves a thorough visual inspection of the entire system, including extraction hoods, ducting, filter units, fans and discharge arrangements, to identify any potential defects. After the visual check, a series of quantitative measurements will be taken, including:
- Hood face velocities and static pressures
- Duct velocities and static pressures
- Static pressure across the filter unit
- Static pressure across the fan
- Discharge stack velocity
Our engineers will provide a detailed report on your LEV system’s performance, along with any recommendations for remedial action. For new or undocumented systems, we can also provide a comprehensive user manual and logbook to help you maintain optimal system performance and compliance.
Maintenance, Service & Repair
Etek Europe offers customised maintenance programs for all LEV systems, including electrical testing, filter replacements and servicing, ensuring your system consistently protects your workforce.
Services include:
- Fault finding and diagnosis, addressing issues such as machine performance, electrical control panel faults, belt/drive replacements, valve operations, cleaning cycles, shaker motors and filter blockages.
- Manufacturer-approved parts, with stock available for ducting, filters, inverters, pressure transducers and drive belts.
- System alterations and modifications, from initial consultation to completion, with detailed drawings and quotations provided as needed.
- Re-commissioning of systems to ensure compliance and optimal operation.
- Repairs to existing installations, including ductwork repairs, replacements, modifications and fan upgrades.

Certification & Logbooks
After completing the LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) test, we will provide a detailed written report that complies with the statutory requirements of COSHH 2002 and HSG 258 (Controlling Airborne Contaminants). If a system fails or requires repairs to meet its intended performance, we will include a prioritised list of recommendations for corrective actions.
For sites with multiple systems, we can also provide an executive summary highlighting the test results and key recommendations.
If an LEV system has not been previously tested, or if system logbooks are unavailable, we can perform a full commissioning process, including the creation of user manuals and logbooks for future reference.
